Snow, Sickness, and Slackery

As most of you know, my (well, Erin's) humble abode on the redneck riviera is tucked away in the mountains of Troy. My understanding is that this particular section of Rensselaer County was particularly hard hit with snow, total accumulations measuring somewhere close to or over 2 feet. According to NOAA Weather Radio, yesterday's snowfall set a single day record, which reassured me that this is not a common occurrence in the area.

Meanwhile, Erin is afflicted with flu-like symptoms. Her mother has convinced her that she has some sort of variant ebola strain. She's been hacking and coughing all night, which lent itself to neither of us getting any sleep. I made chicken soup this morning, and then went outside to do some damage control.

My car is underneath a 4 foot drift of snow, with a 2 foot plow pile behind it. So it's probably safe to say it's not going anywhere. I called in to the "old job" to let them know I'm not going anywhere today. I started petit bleu* (sorry, we watched Amelie last night) and let him run for about an hour. He etched a nice little warm spot for himself, and not much else.

I don't own a shovel, because, hey, I live in an apartment, why would I need a shovel?

Duh.

You can read about Adam's experiences on Long Island at his site. Apparently, he and I are the only ones that realized that there was a blizzard.

Or, perhaps, the only ones with too much time on our hands and no snowmobile.

* I was conflicted, a car is feminine (la petite bleue voiture) but Little Blue is definitely a dude. And since I get to make the decisions around here, we're hella gonna use the masculine form.
