So, it's Governor Arnold, eh? I'm going to officially state that within 6 months, California will be screaming and crying for the return of Gray Davis.
Now, I'm not saying this as someone who claims to know anything about politics, or even as a citizen of Cahleeeforneeya. I'm just hearing the promises that Arnold is making, and the math doesn't work out.
There's a potential $62 Bn deficit. As one of his first actions as Governor, Arnold enacts a huge ass tax cut. It's usually refferred to as the 'unpopular car tax' that's being cut. Uh, have you ever heard of a popular tax?
The decision has also made many local governments nervous as they depend on those revenues to fund police, fire and health programs. The governor elect has said he would not reverse the car tax at the expense of local governments but so far has not detailed how he would avoid doing so.
